new ...
been working on some boxes. this one is one of my favorites so far. it's also my latest. i had this little sculpey thingy i made over two years ago that was my first attempt at sculpey-sculpting. i had no idea what to do with it. on its own, it was nothing. it seems a minor miracle that it would fit so perfectly into this medium.

i wrapped the figure in a rich royal blue organza fabric and glued silver "gems" to her. the problem was keeping the organza ON her, so there's small silver tack at the top of her head and two tacks that look like the gems holding the fabric together. she's cemented on with some industrial strength glue. the roses not only mimic the virgin de guadalupe image, but it masks the very awkard 'feet' which are really not feet at all, but more like a base of some sort, too large to be considered proportionate. the skeleton is covered in beige acrylic and an umber glaze was applied to give it depth and settle into the crevices, giving definition. the entire piece was then varnished in high gloss. there's a silver colored crucifix on the door facing her. hard to tell from the photographs. too much backflash of the black interior.
